Orthotic braces are devices designed to support, align, or improve the function of a body part—such as the foot, ankle, knee, spine, hand, or head. They can help reduce pain, improve mobility, correct posture or alignment, and provide stability after injury or surgery. Whether it’s improving walking, protecting a joint, or aiding in recovery, orthotic braces play a key role in helping people move and function with greater confidence and comfort.

Braces can be off-the-shelf, offering quick support for common conditions like sprains or mild joint instability, or they can be custom-made, designed specifically for an individual’s unique anatomy and needs. Custom orthoses are often used for more complex or long-term conditions and are crafted using detailed measurements, scans, or molds. Whether it’s improving walking, protecting a joint, or aiding in recovery, orthotic braces play a key role in helping people move and function with greater confidence and comfort.

At Biodesign we have a team of Certified Orthotists (CO) who specializes in the assessment, design, fabrication, and fitting of orthoses—custom-made in house or off-the-shelf braces and supports used to assist individuals with physical challenges. We are here to service you and tailor the necessary devices to your needs. After a thorough assessment, your feedback and our clinical knowledge we will be able to provide the necessary information to design an orthotic that fits your needs.

In Ontario there is a program called the Assistive Devices Program (ADP) that will fund a portion of some bracing and prosthetic costs for eligible candidates. For more information about ADP please follow the link below or call us!

Fun Fact!

Orthotics is a specialized medical profession that deals with abnormal alignment of the skeletal system, muscle weakness, disease, or deformity. Each client is evaluated individually, and with the client’s input, an orthotic design is developed to best meet their functional needs. The main goal is to restore mobility, support proper alignment, and help prevent or limit further disability.

Orthotists work with clients of all ages who may require support due to a variety of conditions. Prescribed orthoses can help manage fractures, muscle injuries, or spinal cord damage, and are also vital in supporting individuals with neurological conditions such as cerebral palsy and spina bifida. These devices improve stability, reduce pain, assist with walking or movement, and improve overall quality of life. Orthotists collaborate closely with physicians, physiotherapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure that each orthotic device is tailored to the unique needs of the individual.
