Custom Cranial Remolding Helmets Designed with Care
We specialise in custom cranial remoulding helmets, a highly effective treatment for infants with head shape concerns such as plagiocephaly (flattened side of the head), brachycephaly (widened, short head shape), and scaphocephaly (long, narrow head shape). Using Advanced 3-D Scanning Technology, we capture precise images of your child’s head in under a minute—no messy plaster required!
Cranial remoulding helmets work by gently guiding the natural growth of your baby’s skull, encouraging a more symmetrical head shape. The helmet is custom-made to apply mild pressure to areas of prominence while allowing space for growth where needed. Treatment typically begins between 6 and 9 months of age, but can start up to 12 months, with the best outcomes achieved when intervention starts early, before skull growth slows around the one-year mark.
Our approach follows established clinical standards, including assessment using the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Plagiocephaly Severity Scale, to carefully monitor your child’s progress and tailor the treatment plan to their individual needs. Research has shown that early and appropriate intervention with cranial orthoses leads to significant improvements in head shape symmetry and can positively impact your child’s overall development.
Our Helmets
At Biodesign, we are proud to partner with Talee, a leader in 3D printed cranial remoulding helmet technology. Talee helmets are designed using cutting-edge 3D printing methods, offering an ultra-lightweight, highly breathable, and durable option for cranial reshaping. Their innovative design promotes better airflow, keeps infants cooler, and offers a sleek, modern fit, making them a great choice for many families.
In addition to offering Talee helmets, we also create custom in-house cranial remoulding helmets using traditional thermoform methods. These helmets are carefully handcrafted by our experienced orthotic team, allowing for detailed adjustments and personalised modifications throughout the course of treatment. Our in-house helmets are a trusted, effective solution that provides the flexibility for close monitoring and fine-tuning as your child grows.
Whether you choose a Talee helmet or one of our in-house custom helmets, our priority remains the same: delivering the highest level of care and the best possible outcomes for your child.
