Prosthetic Feet

There are hundreds of prosthetic feet available on the market today and your Prosthetist will help you make a decision on a prosthetic foot that will work best for your needs. This is not a one size fits all solution! When you are looking at prosthetic feet on the internet, keep in mind that all feet come with a cosmetic foot cover that looks like a foot which is often not shown in the photos online. Take a look at some examples of prosthetic feet bellow:

Prosthetic Feet for Everyday Use

Carbon Fiber Dynamic Foot: A carbon fiber prosthetic foot is designed to act as a spring; absorbing impact as you put weight through your prosthesis, and return it back as you push off through the ground. These are available in different shapes and sizes which not only affects the looks of the prosthesis, but also changes the performance and dynamics of the prosthesis as well. Some examples include the J-Shaped feet like the Ossur Vari Flex and Ottobock Taleo, or the C-shaped feet like the Ossur Proflex Terra or Fillauer All Pro.

Hydraulic Foot: Hydraulic feet like the Ossur Proflex Pivot or the Ottobock Taleo Adapt give much more range of motion than the dynamic feet. This added flexibility and freedom of movement comes at the cost of a loss of dynamic propulsion and added weight.

Microprocessor Feet: These feet have sensors and computers built into the foot which adapts to different terrain and different activities. This provides a more natural gait pattern, especially when walking on uneven ground, up or down stairs and ramps etc.

High Heels: Prosthetic foot options like the Ossur Proflex LP Align and the Ottobock Taleo Adjust have a button that allows the user to quickly adapt to different shoe heights. This allows the user to adjust their prosthetic to accommodate high heel shoes, flats, running shoes, or barefoot walking.

Specialty Feet for Activity and Sport

Running Legs: Running blades like the Ossur “Cheetah” lineup offers running blades which are specially designed for sprinting, long distance running, or even long jump. Ottobock’s running lineup also provides blade style activity prostheses that are designed for many different activities. The Fillauer All-Pro is an excellent blade option for people who are interested in running adjacent activities like basketball, tennis, or soccer

Motocross/Weight Lifting/ Skiing/ Snowboarding/Mountain Biking: The Biodapt Versa foot was designed and built by a professional snowmobile and motocross athlete who uses a prosthesis. The foot was designed with highly durable, tunable pneumatic shocks specifically for high impact sports. The Ottobock Pro Carve is also designed for skiing and snowboarding and can even fit directly to a ski binding.

Rock Climbing: The TRS El Dorado is specifically designed for rock climbers!

Cycling: The Coyote Cyclone foot is specifically designed to fit directly into a road bike clipless pedal system creating a light weight, rigid, and aerodynamic prosthesis for high level cyclists.
